Podcasting is redefining modern journalism and storytelling. With over 550,000 shows currently on iTunes including content in more than 100 languages, podcasts have become the forum where unique voices and idiosyncratic topics are allowed to find their audiences and those audiences are becoming flourishing communities of their own.

Since 2015, Ryan Starr has showcased Philadelphia’s creative community on his podcast, Hi-Res. Through in-depth interviews with designers, photographers, illustrators and creative thinkers, he has explored how his guests developed their creativity, their first experiences in the creative field and their most compelling work. On the precipice of the 100th episode of the show, Ryan recounts the false starts and doubt that go into creating something new, why remaining curious is so important and why you need to get started on your own idea – right now.

Following this presentation, Ryan will be joined by a panel of local podcasters to share their perspectives, learnings, and how following their passions helped build a community.

EVENT TIMELINE:
6:00 – 6:30 pm: Networking
6:30 – 7:00 pm: Presentation
7:00 – 8:00 pm: Panel Discussion

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
One of Ryan’s favorite questions to ask the guests of his podcast Hi-Res is what is their first design memory. For him, it was stalking the horror aisles of his local video store, a bag of comic books probably already in hand, just appreciating the box art with no intention of renting a thing. Years later, his passion for movie posters, comic books and zines would lead him to a career in graphic design.

With 18 years of experience, (all in our fair city of Philadelphia) he’s been creating branding and award-winning design solutions for a wide range of clients including Avis Budget Group, AARP, Philadelphia Eagles, Villanova Athletics and Xfinity. He is excited to begin a new chapter of his career as the Creative Director for St. Joseph’s University.
